A highly nutritious fruit, ber or jujube is considered sacred to Shiva in India. Consumed religiously on the festival of Mahashivratri, the fruit has calming properties and is known to be a good source of natural antioxidants.
The ber tree is also popular as a fruit that removes sorrow, perhaps because of its sedative properties. Among the fruit trees, ber cultivation requires perhaps the least inputs and care.
